Machine Learning (ML) is an application of artificial intelligence that provides systems the ability to use data and learn without being explicitly programmed. The learning process begins by observing data (such as examples, direct experience, or instruction) in order to look for patterns that help inform future decisions. Common applications of ML can be seen in Netflix algorithms or social media feeds.

How is ML used in real life?

Facebook uses personalization algorithms to tailor your newsfeed. The algorithm analyzes data about the posts you interact with, how you interact with them, and who posted them and uses to to tailor similar content to your feed.

Amazon uses personalization algorithms to tailor your shopping experience. As you click on more items, the data is analyzed and you get recommendations for products accordingly. Major holidays can also contribute to the items you see.

Netflix uses data points such as genre, cast members, and language to tailor content to your feed. Netflix taken it a step further and created Nerflix Original content by analyzing user data and determining wha the most people would want to watch.
